In Prague’s Old Town is one of Europe’s most beautiful town squares. It is a pedestrian area which makes it very pleasant to stroll through or to enjoy a coffee from one of the popular cafes surrounding the square. It is also the site for the city’s main market place which definitely adds to the atmosphere of Prague. Enjoy browsing among the wooden stalls searching for that bargain or memento to bring home with you. To the north of the Old Town Square is the Jan Hus monument. Hus has been a national hero in the Czech Republic since he was burnt at the stake as a heretic in the year 1415. This Art-Nouveau monument may appear to be in contrast to the square’s architecture but it is a powerful statement nonetheless.
On the west side of Prague’s Old Town Square is the Old Town Hall. A very interesting feature is the hall’s unique astronomical clock. Many visitors to Prague come to stand in front of the clock on the hour to watch its ingenious workings. Visitors can also enjoy breathtaking views over Prague city from the clock tower’s viewing gallery. In fact many of the hotels in Prague’s Old Town area have nice views also.
Hotels in Prague’s Old Town will be conveniently located for spending time at the Old Town Square and the town hall and well as for paying a visit to Josefov, Prague’s Jewish Quarter.
